Posted: Mon Feb 01, 2010 6:45 pm Post subject: Missed Schedule Reports Not Useful |
|
|
Unless I'm not correctly using the missed schedule reporting features, they're not useful.
If a client does not connect at the scheduled time, I'm getting a missed schedule note in my reports. This basically creates a huge report because even if a client does not connect immediately at its scheduled time, it'll be referenced as a missed schedule.
What would be more useful is if I can see a list of clients that have not connected in X hours/days.
Firing up a report of clients that have not connected in the last 72 hours would be very helpful. . . seeing every client on my screen that did not start their backup right on schedule is not.
Any advise? |

Hi,
The backup server will wait for, by default, 1 hour before marking the backup as missed. Like for example, if the client is supposed to backup at 10am, the backup server will mark the backup as missed only at 11am, if the client hasn't still connected to the server.
You can change the 1 hour grace time to a larger time period if you want by doing the following in the backup server:
1. Stop StoreGrid in backup server.
2. Open the "<StoreGrid Home>/conf/SGConfiguration.conf" xml file in a text editor.
3. Edit GraceTime attribute of the MissedScheduleConfig tag For example,
<MissedScheduleConfig GraceTime="3600"
to
<MissedScheduleConfig GraceTime="10800"
4. Save the configuration file and start the StoreGrid application.
Also, in 2.5.1 SP2, we have done a change where you can generate report where it creates only one entry per backup schedule.. i.e. if a backup had been missed for last few days, it will report only the latest missed backup schedule. Also you can generate the report based on criteria like:
Show backups that have not backed up successfully for the last x day(s)
Show backups that have backed up successfully in the last x day(s)
Show all latest status of backups for the last x day(s)
Hope this helps.

That pretty much answers it.
I'm running Server 2.5.5 but I am confused as how to generate the "show backups that have not backed up successfully for the last X days"
I must be missing something. . . |

Hi compdocs,
Since 2.5.1 SP2 was released after v2.5.5 release, this change is not available in v2.5.5. We have a patch for v2.5.5 though. Please send an email to our support team with the OS details of your backup server and they will send the patch for your v2.5.5 backup server for these enhancements in the client status report.
Regards
Kshama
