Add a New Client For a Group (in the StoreGrid Server)
Overview
From this page, you can add a new client under a group and configure backup space, backup location and an optional password for the client (backing up to this server).
If you have enabled Auto Authorization for the group, then you don't really need to add clients manually. Your group can add clients and StoreGrid automatically adds clients to the server whenever the clients backup to the server. However, if you have disabled Auto Authorization for the group or if you'd prefer to set disk space & password individually for each client of your group(s), you can add the client from this page.
Client Information
Client Name : You should input the StoreGrid ID of the client that will backup to the server. Note that this StoreGrid ID should exactly match the ID the client will use to identify itself. So make sure, the client uses the correct StoreGrid ID when he/she installs the StoreGrid client. -
Server(Cluster) Name : A non-editable field displaying the name of this StoreGrid server. -
Group Name : A non-editable field displaying the name of the group. -
Basic Configuration
Backup Storage Location: This field is used to set the backup location where the selected client's backup data needs to be stored. You can edit this directory location either manually or by selecting the backup location from the directory tree by clicking the button provided at the end of the text box. [This field will not be available in Cloud Backup Server as the storage backend used is Amazon S3.]
Cloud Backup Server (StoreGrid Backup Server deployed in Amazon EC2): The following field will be available only in a Cloud Backup server installation:
Space Allocation: Using this field you can select to allot storage for the client manually or in auto mode. In auto mode, the client will be able to store backup data limited only by the storage used by all the clients under the group with the maximum limit set for the group. If you would like to allot a limited space for the client, then the space can be allotted by providing the disk space value in MB, GB or TB by selecting the appropriate option.
Space Utilization Snapshot for group:
Disk space allotted for the group - Total disk space allotted for the group.
Disk Space used by the group - The sum of the disk space allotted to different clients under this group.
Free Backup Space available - Free space available in the group which is not allocated to any client i.e., it is the difference between total backup space in the group and the total backup space allotted to clients.
The link “Edit Disk Space Allocated for Server/Group/Client” takes the user to Server Admin -> Server Management -> Disk Space Management. This lists the groups, their clients and their backup schedules with their MCAL and Space details. The space settings can be edited here.
Web Access [Enable/Disable]: You can enable web access to this client by which the client can log into the server web console and access its backup data in the backup server from anywhere by using the StoreGrid ID of the client as the user name and the password specified in the 'Type Password' field.
Type Password: If you are manually adding the client to the server and Auto Authorization is disabled for this group, then you need to provide a password for authorizing the client with this server. The client should be given the StoreGrid ID and the password and the StoreGrid client should authorize itself once with this password (the one you set here) before the client is allowed to backup to the server. This password is also used for the user to access the client machine's backups in the backup server from anywhere (when Web Access is enabled) - by logging into the backup server web console using the StoreGrid ID of the client as the user name and this password.
Confirm Password: This field is used to confirm that the password is entered correctly in the password field.
Advanced Configuration
Evaluation Status [Client Type] : Using this option you can add the client for a maximum of 30 day trial. After the trial the client can be converted into a paid client or de-activated and removed. To automatically de-activate and remove the trial client and to configure the number of days for the trial to last, please update the Trial Client Settings.
Set bandwidth throttling specifically for this client - StoreGrid's Bandwidth Throttling feature enables the user to limit the bandwidth usage for a backup schedule. Bandwidth can be configured at the backup server level group and client levels.
If the option No [Use Group's or Server's global bandwidth throttling configuration] is selected, then the bandwidth throttling for the client will be set as per the group's configuration. If there is no specific setting for the Group, then the client uses the backup server's configuration.
- If the option Yes is selected, then you can setup bandwidth throttling specific to this client by entering the following details:
Enable bandwidth throttling for this client - Choose to enable or disable bandwidth throttling.
Throttle bandwidth always - Choose this option to enable bandwidth throttling throughout the day.
Throttle bandwidth from - Choose this option to enable bandwidth throttling only during the specified hours of the day.
Throttle each backup to maximum of - The rate to which bandwidth should be throttled.
Add Client Button: After configuring the options specified above, click on the 'Add Client' button to add a new client. Once the Client settings has been saved, a confirm alert message will be displayed to send the account details to the Client in an Email. Click 'OK' if you would like to view and send the Email. This confirmation alert will be displayed, only if you have enabled Email feature in the "Administration->Advanced Options->Email Settings(tab)" page.
Note:
When a client uses up all the backup space allotted for the client, the server will not allow the client to backup thereafter. The client's backups will be aborted and StoreGrid will generate an event indicating the space issue. Backup can proceed only after the client is allotted more space on the server.
